Optimum Keyword Density

If you are trying to get your site listed in the search engine for specific keywords, you need to be aware of your keyword density.

Keyword density is the percentage of words on a web page that match a specified set of keywords. In the context of search engine optimization, keyword density can be used as a factor in determining whether a web page is relevant to a specified keyword or keyword phrase.

Due to the ease of managing keyword density, search engines usually implement other measures of relevancy to prevent webmasters from creating search spam through practices such as keyword stuffing. In other words, if you use the same word over and over again, you get penalized. If you don’t use it enough, then you don’t appear to be as relevant.

A keyword density tool is useful for helping webmasters and SEO’s achieve their optimum keyword density for a set of key terms.

I especially like this one, not only does it give you a percentage of the most used words on your website, but it also displays your website content with the words resized, according to how relevant of a role they play.  Remember that the perfect keyword density will help achieve higher search engine positions. Keyword density needs to be balanced correctly (too low and you will not get the optimum benefit, too high and your page might be flagged for “keyword spamming”). Best bet is to aim for about 5-7% keyword density.

I 100% agree, my site has about a 7% keyword density.

What if you have many keywords?

  3. Jack says:

I try to keep my keyword density about 5%. I could go higher, but it just does not read well.

  4. Chris Douthit says:

If you have many keywords you need to really pick a main keyword to target on your sales page, followed by a secondary word. If you have 10 words you would like to target its best to make several sales pages for these other words.
